How long does it take to install a stairlift?

The question we all ask ourselves: How long will this last? The good news is that installing a stairlift is quicker than you might think, and no building work is required.

For straight staircases, installation takes approximately 3 to 5 hours. If your staircase has curves or changes in level, installation may take 1 or 2 days, depending on the complexity. We will explain why this varies later on.

How the actual installation time is determined

Installation is not something that happens overnight. Although the assembly itself is quick, there is some preparation beforehand that makes all the difference.

Primero hay que tomar medidas

A technician will visit your home and take measurements of the section and workspace as accurately as possible to avoid errors.
A quick measurement without paying close attention to detail may seem like it saves time, but it can lead to delays, readjustments, and frustration later on.

Rail Manufacturing

This is perhaps the most time-consuming part of the entire process. For straight staircases, the rail is usually available more quickly because it is a straight section. However, in the case of curved staircases or those with changes in slope, it needs to be custom-made according to your exact measurements. That is why it is crucial that the measurements are perfect from the outset.

Stairlift installation and adjustment

Once all of the above has been completed, the team will come to your home to install the stairlift and check that everything is working correctly. The duration will obviously depend on each specific case, but in general it should not take more than 3 to 5 hours for simple solutions.

In cases of curved sections, multi-storey buildings, very narrow dwellings and so on, installation time may be extended. Always ask the company installing the stairlift for an approximate time frame to avoid any doubts.

Why does installation time vary?

Mainly due to three factors.

  1. Type of staircase. Straight staircases can be installed in a matter of hours. Curved staircases, spiral staircases, or staircases with changing slopes take longer to install because the guide rail is more complex.
  2. Access to electricity. If we need to extend the electrical connection, this may add time. That is why we detect it in the initial measurement.
  3. Condition of the staircase. Some staircases have hidden unevenness, irregular steps or delicate surfaces. All of this is detected during the visit, and if necessary, we communicate it immediately to adjust the timing.

Avoid mistakes when installing a stairlift

After hundreds of installations, fortunately, we know what can go wrong and we can fix it. Rushed measurements, poor planning with the homeowner, working with generalist teams, etc.

At J&J Stairlifts, we avoid all this because we take care of everything from day one. We have professionals who are experienced in installing stairlifts and platform lifts in narrow homes, in curved or straight installations, on multiple floors… all types.
